Cabinet Cleaning

We have lived in our house for 8 years now and since the kids have been born I haven’t done much of the really heavy duty cleaning. We would like to move in a year so I figured it was about time to start checking things off of my to-do list. I decided to start with the kitchen and take everything out of the cabinets to scrub them from top to bottom. I stood on top of my countertop to take items off of the top of my cabinets and I was horrified. There was a very thick, sticky and dusty layer of grime. I started to jump right in by spraying it and wiping and I didn’t get very far because the dust was sticking so badly. It was similar to mopping the floor without sweeping first, just just end up with wet, dusty floors.

Of course I began googling, “how to clean the top of cabinets” and was confronted with multiple solutions. I used a mix of different options and once I got into a rhythm it went fast. The first thing I did was take a dry scrub brush and try to get up as much of the dust as possible.

I really like to use natural cleaners as much as possible and my favorite go to cleaning solution is half vinegar and half water.  I sprayed the cabinets with the vinegar/water solution and scrub, scrub, and scrub some more. I needed a pretty rough brush to get all of the grime off. After it was all loosened up I took a wet cloth and wiped it all off. When I was done I put a layer of wax paper down to make future cleaning easy.
