Family Portraits

We recently had new family pictures taken and I really love when this time comes around. When the kids were younger I had pictures taken every six months and now we are doing them once a year. It’s easy to get lost in the day to day grind and the pictures give me a snapshot of our lives at that time. These days always seems to stick with me, even the hectic mornings as we get everyone ready for pictures. I love comparing the pictures from year to year and watching the kids grow. Plus it gets me in the picture with the kids!

We took these pictures at the beautiful Mellon Park in Pittsburgh. The kids were extremely uncooperative during the 45 minute photo shoot and I expected the pictures to be a total loss. 2 days after the photo shoot the photographer sent me a preview photo and I loved it. Since I wasn’t expecting any good pictures I was thrilled with the preview and couldn’t wait to receive the rest of the pictures. I was like a child on Christmas morning when the full set of pictures arrived. I looked through them a dozen times and showed the kids and forwarded them to our friends and family. Now I am printing them and hanging them around the house for me to enjoy looking at every day.

OK to Wake Clock

img_1308 Dante has always been a relatively good sleeper with the exception of being an early riser. Lately he was waking up way too early and climbing into our bed at 4 am ready to get the party started. Clearly that didn’t work for us, so we bough the OK to Wake Clock and it has been great.

You set the clock to whatever time you want your child to get out of bed and the clock lights up green when that time comes. We set the time of the clock to 5:30 am, which is still probably really early for most people, but for us that is considered a great nights sleep since we are morning people.

Dante picked up on the concept from day one and got so excited to wait for the clock to turn green and then he wanted to show us it every time. It has not only kept him in bed longer it has helped him even sleep longer sometimes. I have watched him on the monitor wake up around 5 am and he will intently watch the clock to see when it turns green, but occasionally he will fall back asleep until 6-6:30 am.

On the weekends the kids ask to sleep together in Leela’s bed and it has helped both of them stay in bed on those nights. I have even heard them wake up before the clock turns green and chat together until it is time to get out of bed, which is adorable. I plan on buying one for Leela’s bedroom soon and I have already told many people about it because it has worked so well for us.

Random Questions

I saw something on Facebook recently about asking your kids a list of random questions and decided to give it a shot to see what they would come up with.

1. What is your name? Dante

Summer 2016

The Summer of 2016 was an absolute blast. Now that the kids are getting older and sleeping (mostly) it makes life so much easier. In May my mother-in-law retired and she began watching the kids for the 3 days that I work. The kids were so excited to be with their grandparents already and it made it even better when their big cousins joined them for the summer in June.

Leela Dairy Test

imageIt was a beautiful Saturday evening, which of course calls for ice cream. When we go out for ice cream we always take a Popsicle or dairy free ice cream treat for Leela. Typically she is content with her own special treat, but today she was very interested in the ice cream that we were all eating and kept asking for a bite of my twist ice cream with sprinkles.  Every couple of months we do a test and give her some kind of dairy product to see how she reacts and since we hadn’t tested it in a while I decided to give her some. She of course loved it and ate a good amount. I was extremely nervous to see how the night would go because typically she wakes up many times squirming and crying in pain. She slept through the night and seemed totally fine! I am going to give it a couple of days to see how her body reacts as it comes out of her, but hopefully this is a turning point.

While I have gotten used to the dietary adjustments and always making sure that I have food for her at parties, restaurants, running around, it would be nice to have the option to order off the menu or on the go.
