The Summer of 2016 was an absolute blast. Now that the kids are getting older and sleeping (mostly) it makes life so much easier. In May my mother-in-law retired and she began watching the kids for the 3 days that I work. The kids were so excited to be with their grandparents already and it made it even better when their big cousins joined them for the summer in June.
Next we were off to Los Angeles to visit my sister, her husband, and three children. I was extremely nervous about the flight and the time change but the kids did great with both. They had so much fun playing with their cousins since we only get to see them once a year. While we were on the west coast we went to San Diego for 2 days to visit the San Diego Zoo and Sea World.
Then we were back to LA where we visited Skirball Cultural Center and the California Science Center both of which were very fun and different than the ones we have in Pittsburgh.
We celebrated Leela’s 2nd birthday.
We also traveled to Hilton Head in July. The kids did so well on the long drive, even better than me actually since I hate driving in the car. They loved the beach and the ocean and during this trip both kids became really comfortable in the water swimming with their puddle jumpers. The turtles nests were all along the grass and were hatching in the evenings which was so cool to see.
My brother took the kids fishing a couple of times which they loved doing with their Uncle Pete. We went hiking multiple times at Fall Run Park, Soergel Orchards, Pittsburgh Zoo and checked out the new Daniel Tiger exhibit at The Children’s Museum.
Leela got her big girl bed, how did that happen so fast?!?
We ended the summer with a great long labor day weekend. I feel terrible saying this, but not that long ago I would have somewhat dreaded 5 days home with the kids with no particular plans, but now its pretty great. We can up and leave the house easily and the kids are playing together really nicely.
Now Dante has started preschool and we are finding a new normal schedule and looking forward to more fun adventures this Fall.
